Wallet Guide
"Your gateway to the Web3 world. Learn to store your assets securely."
A crypto wallet is not like a physical wallet that contains banknotes. It is a tool that stores your 'private keys', the cryptographic passwords that allow you to access and manage your funds recorded on the blockchain.
Custodial vs Non-Custodial
Custodial Wallet
Keys are managed by a third party (e.g., Exchange). It's like having money in a bank.
- ✓ Advantage: Easy password recovery
- ✓ Advantage: Simple to start
- ✗ Disadvantage: You don't have total control
- ✗ Disadvantage: Platform hack risk
Non-Custodial Wallet
You are the sole owner of the keys (Seed Phrase). 'Be your own bank'.
- ✓ Advantage: Total control and privacy
- ✓ Advantage: Access to all dApps
- ✗ Disadvantage: If you lose the phrase, you lose everything
- ✗ Disadvantage: No customer support
MetaMask
Non-Custodial (Hot Wallet)
Go to metamask.io or download the extension from Chrome Web Store / App Store.
Create a new wallet, set a secure password, and write down your Seed Phrase on paper.
Use the extension to connect to Web3 sites, manage your tokens, and approve transactions.
Key Differences
It is the standard for dApps. Unlike Crypto.com, you have total control of the keys.
Coinbase Wallet
Non-Custodial
Download the "Coinbase Wallet" app (not the main Coinbase app) from the store.
Create a new account or import an existing one via Seed Phrase.
Simplified interface to manage NFTs and crypto. Supports cloud backup (be careful).
Key Differences
More user-friendly than MetaMask for beginners, but less flexible for some advanced dApps.
Crypto.com App
Custodial
Download the Crypto.com app from the App Store or Google Play.
Register with email and complete identity verification (KYC).
Manage your funds through the centralized app. You can buy with a credit card.
Key Differences
Custodial: the company holds the keys for you. Easier to use but less pure "Web3".
The Golden Rule
NEVER share your Seed Phrase (the 12/24 words) with anyone. No technical support will ever ask for it. Whoever owns the phrase, owns the wallet.
